Server & Data Centre Decommissioning
Cloud migrations, consolidations and site closures all end the same way: racks of hardware that must disappear securely, on schedule, and with every serial number accounted for. That's precisely what we do.
Decommissioning a server estate is not a skip-hire job. It's a project — with dependencies, security constraints, live neighbours in shared racks, and an auditor waiting at the end. Our decommissioning team plans and executes the physical retirement of IT infrastructure from single comms rooms to whole data halls.
We handle de-racking, cable recovery, asset tagging and reconciliation against your CMDB, secure packaging and tracked transport. Data-bearing media is wiped or destroyed — on-site before removal if your policy requires it — and every asset's fate is recorded on your final reconciliation report.
Enterprise servers, SANs and networking hardware often retain significant resale value; our remarketing desk recovers it and returns the proceeds to your project budget. What can't be resold is recycled to our zero-landfill standard.

What this service covers
Project management included
A named project manager owns your decommission end-to-end: survey, method statement, schedule, execution and reporting.
De-installation & de-racking
Our engineers safely power down, de-rack, and remove servers, storage, switches and PDUs — including out-of-hours and weekend windows.
CMDB reconciliation
Every asset is scanned and reconciled against your configuration records, with exceptions flagged and resolved before we leave.
On-site media destruction
Drives can be shredded or wiped on-site before anything leaves the building — standard practice for regulated estates.
Value recovery at enterprise scale
Servers, storage and networking equipment are remarketed through specialist channels, with rebates often funding a substantial part of the project.
Secure logistics
Tracked, sealed vehicles and vetted crews move your hardware under an unbroken chain of custody.
What we collect
Not sure whether something qualifies? Ask — the list below is typical, not exhaustive.
- Rack and tower servers, blades and chassis
- SAN, NAS and storage arrays with their full drive sets
- Switches, routers, firewalls and structured cabling
- Full racks, cabinets, rails, PDUs and containment
- UPS systems, batteries and power infrastructure
- Cooling ancillaries and data centre fit-out hardware
Documentation you receive
Included as standard on every job — never charged as an extra.
- Pre-decommission asset audit reconciled against your CMDB
- Rack-level and serial-level asset register
- Certificate of data destruction for every drive removed
- Waste transfer and hazardous consignment notes
- Itemised value-recovery statement for resold hardware
- Project completion report with photographic evidence
How it works
- 1
Site survey & scoping
We survey the estate, agree the method statement and lock in the schedule around your constraints.
- 2
Asset audit
Everything in scope is tagged and baselined against your inventory before a single cable is pulled.
- 3
De-install & destroy
Hardware is de-racked and media is wiped or destroyed — on-site if required — before removal.
- 4
Secure removal
Assets leave in sealed, tracked vehicles, reconciled item by item at both ends.
- 5
Resell & recycle
Valuable hardware is remarketed for rebate; the remainder is recycled with zero landfill.
- 6
Final reporting
You receive the full project pack: reconciliation report, destruction certificates, WTNs and rebate statement.

The benefits at a glance
- One accountable team from survey to final report
- Out-of-hours execution to protect live services
- On-site destruction options for regulated data
- Enterprise remarketing recovers real project budget
- Full reconciliation — no unexplained assets, ever
- Zero-to-landfill recycling as standard
Server Decommissioning FAQs
Yes — shared racks and partially live environments are routine for our engineers. The method statement defines exactly what's in scope, and physical separation measures protect everything that stays.
